Diane Street park is about to undergo a makeover!

New play equipment will be installed with an emergency services theme, complete with police car and ambulance rocker, swings and other play options catering to toddlers and older children.

The existing roofed shade shelter will remain in place, but to assist with the park’s maintenance, new softfall edging will be installed and access to the play space will also be improved for parents and caregivers with the construction of a new footpath.

The project is scheduled to begin in October 2021, weather permitting. Work will be conducted between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, (Saturdays as required by the contractor).

The playground will be closed to the public for the duration of the project’s construction and some noise and dust disturbance is expected.

Thank you for your patience while these exciting improvements are delivered. We look forward to seeming families enjoy this new space soon!

This $200,335 project is partially funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure program for the amount of $181,256.

Mackay Regional Council had some time ago completed works at Diane Street Park.

The works included the installation of play equipment, which has since undergone compliance check inspections.

These inspections were critical to ensure the park meets all requirements for the safety of park users.

Work has been undertaken on site to rectify most of the identified non-compliance issues. A final inspection was held Thursday, June 9, and compliance certificates from the play equipment supplier have been provided. On this basis, the park is expected to open by Tuesday, June 14, weather permitting.

To ensure the safety of park users, the tower and the track ride seat will be temporarily unavailable for use. The sand digger has been removed and will be replaced at a later date. Rectification of these items is in progress and will be completed as soon as possible.

All other planned works concerning this project have been finalised, including a new footpath and improved pram ramp.

Council sincerely thanks residents for their ongoing patience while these works are completed.

Mackay Regional Council recently undertook works at Diane Street Park.

The works include the installation of play equipment, which although completed, is currently undergoing compliance checks.

These inspections are critical to ensure the park meets all requirements for the safety of park users. Initial reviews have identified some concerns surrounding the equipment. To resolve the concerns raised as soon as possible, council has sought a specialised Playground Inspector to investigate further.

Residents are advised that the playground will remain closed to the public until compliance concerns are resolved.

All other planned works concerning this project have been completed, such as a new footpath and improved pram ramp.

Council thanks you for your patience and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
