FAQ
What is Council's Engagement Policy?
See details of our Engagement Policy.
Is my privacy protected?
Your privacy is protected. If you register for Connecting Mackay, Council will only use your email address to invite you to participate in new projects and update you on existing projects.
The information you provide is only used to enable us to have a better understanding of how programs, projects, policies and initiatives impact across the different demographics within our local government area.
The information you provide is protected and will not be used for any other purpose. See more information about your privacy in our Privacy Policy.
Can I use this site anonymously?
Yes, you can use this site anonymously. Even when you register and post comments, your anonymity is protected because you are identified by your chosen screen name.
How does registering to the site benefit me?
Knowing a little more about who you are will ensure we get a higher quality of data to go along with your feedback. The data will help us to target feedback from specific groups (e.g. age, gender) and in turn will provide a richer and more valuable response to help Council make decisions.
As a registered user we will let you know when consultations are open as well as send updates on the projects that interest you, as they become available.
What happens to my feedback?
All comments, ideas and suggestions received from Council's engagement activities are collated and used to inform Council decision making processes for the development of strategies, programs, projects and activities.
How are comments moderated?
Every comment is valued for its content. This engagement hub allows everyone to have a say and it brings out many different ideas and points of view.
Moderation is carried out by Bang the Table Pty. Ltd. who are independent to Council. The moderators do not edit or alter any comments and will only remove comments deemed to be significantly off topic, offensive or malicious, in which case they are removed from the site immediately.
How can I participate in Council's engagement activities?
Connecting Mackay is an online engagement tool for Mackay Regional Council, and is the main hub for all of our engagement activities.
Our engagement methods are tailored to suit each individual project or activity. Activities such as workshops, focus groups, open days and on-site pop ups will also be used, depending on the size and significance of the project for the community.
I signed up but didn't receive the activation email. What should I do?
There are a few reasons this might have happened:
- The email may have gone into your spam email or junk folder. Check there first.
- Your email service provider may have a very strong firewall that is blocking the activation email. This happens occasionally. Contact your service provider.
- You may have typed your email address incorrectly - just check that this is not the case.
If you are still experiencing difficulty, email us at engagement@mackay.qld.gov.au and we will be able to take a look at this for you.
I've forgotten my password and/or my username. What should I do?
Step 1. Click the Login link on the top right of the screen
Step 2. Click the forgot password link under the sign in button
Step 3. Type in your email address and click enter. You will then receive an email from us with your Username and a link back to the site. Click on that link to reset your password.
Step 4. Sign in with your old username and new password.
What is the difference between a formal submission and a survey?
It is Council's policy that a formal submission is required for some specific projects or decisions, or to fulfill a legislative requirement. These are usually for strategic decisions such as the Annual Budget or an Amendment process.
A formal submission requires the contact name and address of respondents. It becomes public information and is provided to Council for their consideration.
How can I provide feedback or make a suggestion not relevant to the engagement activity being undertaken?

Your email will be forwarded to the relevant officer to provide a response. We will reply to your questions in a timely manner with the most accurate information that is available.
