Council has developed a final concept plan for the Alsatia Park upgrade in Walkerston!

The plan is based on community feedback that was gathered last year.

During the consultation period, there was support for the children’s playground to be moved away from the skatepark and for the playground to be more visible and larger in size.

Council has supported this request and the children’s playground has been relocated to the opposite side of the park where it will occupy a more visible and elevated position within the park.

The playground will also be increased in size to cater for a wider age group, toddler to 14 years, and the area will be fitted with covered seating for parents and shading over the small children’s play equipment.

The half basketball court and skatepark will also get a facelift and football posts will be installed in the park’s open “kick-about space”.

Other works planned for the park include:

  • Converting the shelter next to the skatepark into a “hang-out space” for older kids, complete with a table tennis table.
  • Drainage improvements.
  • The skatepark’s half-pipe will be extended and the riding surface restored.
  • A new backboard and hoop fitted to the southern side of the basketball court and the court’s line markings repainted.
  • New footpaths to make the park more accessible.
  • Additional seating, bins and fencing to improve user comfort and safety.
  • A drinking bubbler with a dog bowl.
  • Additional shade trees.
  • An amenity block.
  • Barbecue facilities.

The detailed design is completed and construction is forecasted to commence this year.
