Alsatia Park is now open and has new and improved facilities for the whole family to enjoy.

Despite weather delays caused by an extended wet season, Vassallo Constructions has delivered a revitalised park that reflects the ideas and feedback shared by the community during the consultation phase in 2022.

One of the most notable changes is the relocation of the playground to the western side of the park, creating a safer separation between younger children and skatepark users.

The playground has been upgraded with two themed play units, including a large harvester-with slides, climbing ropes and cubbies and a smaller tractor-themed unit designed for younger children, complete with shade.

Other new additions and upgrades include:

    • A youth hang-out space, which features new seating and a ping pong table. Watch this space for some new artwork by a local artist!

    • Upgraded skatepark with improved riding surfaces.

    • A new basketball half-court and football posts provide opportunities for informal games and active play.

    • Modern amenities including unisex disability and ambulant toilets, a drinking bubbler with a dog bowl, picnic shelters and a barbeque.

    • Improved accessibility and safety with new footpaths, fencing, drainage upgrades, additional shade trees, bins and updated signage.

Council will be hosting an official opening event to thank the community for their input during consultation and their patience during construction.

More details to come soon – subscribe to project update emails to stay informed!

    Alsatia Park is taking shape!

Vassallo Constructions has ticked off a major milestone with the installation of new playground equipment at Alsatia Park.

As a result of community feedback, the playground was relocated from the eastern side of the park near the skatepark to the western side next to the basketball court to provide separate play spaces for small children and older kids and skatepark users.

The new playground will feature a large combination unit in the shape of a harvester, which pays homage to the Mackay region's agricultural history. It features multiple slides, climbing ropes, cubbies and more-under trafficable softfall.

The playground will also feature equipment catering to younger children, like a smaller combination unit in the shape of a tractor, which will be under shade, and multiple spring rockers.

Parents will now have a great vantage point from additional seating being installed within the playground space.

The new park will have something for kids of all ages to enjoy, with the playground catering to a wider age range, an upgraded skatepark, a ping pong table in the hang-out space and new football posts.

    Alsatia Park update (May 2023)

The detailed design for Alsatia Park is taking shape and includes feedback received from the community last year.

The contractor has completed 70 per cent of the design with the final design expected to be completed this year.

During the consultation period, there was support for the children’s playground to be moved away from the skatepark and for the playground to be more visible and larger in size.

Council has supported this request along with giving the half-basketball court and skatepark a facelift and installing new items including:

    • new shelters with covered seating
    • football posts
    • hang-out space for older kids, complete with a table tennis table
    • drainage improvements
    • new footpaths
    • a drinking bubbler with a dog bowl
    • additional shade trees
    • toilet
    • barbecue facilities
    • connecting pathway.

Construction works are expected to commence mid-next year.
