Community Attitude Survey
Residents believe roads and bridges should be council's top priority for the next three years.
That was a key finding from the 2023 Community Attitude Survey that included a check-in on the goals of council's Corporate Plan.
The phone poll of 400 residents also found that 68 per cent of residents surveyed were satisfied overall with council's performance over the past 12 months.
The average satisfaction rating was 6.4 out of 10, down marginally by 0.2 points from 2018.
Kerbside wheelie bin collection (8.5) was the best perceived service, followed by Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens (8.3).
The condition of unsealed local roads (4.8) was the worst perceived service. A similarly low rate was recorded for local sealed roads (5.1).
Satisfaction ratings for council services and facilities can be benchmarked against previous surveys in 2021, 2018, 2014 and 2009.

Council is embarking on a Community Attitude Survey which will include a check-in on the goals of its Corporate Plan.
The Corporate Plan for 2022-2027 was adopted in April last year and is an exciting blueprint for the region for five years.
As it is now 12 months into the plan, the time is right to check in with the community to survey their thoughts on how council and the region is faring.
The survey will particularly focus on its three outward facing pillars, which include:
- Invest and Work
- Live and Visit
- Community and Environment.
Traditional questions based around council’s performance in terms of the services it provides, and its community facilities will also be included.
These surveys are conducted every few years and highlight where council is doing a good job and where there is room for improvement.
A phone poll of 400 residents will be done by research company EMRS on behalf of council. For those not contacted by phone, an online version can be completed below.
