Council is taking action to control the invasive European Red Fox population at East Point to protect native wildlife in the area.

Humane traps have been deployed in the dunes as an initial control measure. Please note, that this method of fox control poses a low risk to pets. However, if trapped, a dog may experience some discomfort.

Please ensure all pets are kept on a leash or in a carrier, at all times, when outside your property.

Six fox shooting operations have also been scheduled to occur over the next few weeks.

They are scheduled to take place on the following dates, weather permitting:

  • Tuesday, January 21, from 7pm to 5am the following day.
  • Wednesday, January 22, from 7pm to 5am the following day.
  • Tuesday, January 28, from 7pm to 5am the following day.
  • Wednesday, January 29, from 7pm to 5am the following day.
  • Tuesday, February 4, from 7pm to 5am the following day.
  • Wednesday, February 5, 7pm to 5am the following day.

During this program, the turtle nests in East Point will be monitored.

An exclusion zone will be put in place during the fox shooting operations and no public access will be allowed. Please refer to the map below.

In the interest of public safety, residents are advised to follow the instructions of all signage and officers at the site and avoid the exclusion zone during the scheduled fox shooting operations.

If your pets are sensitive to loud noises, council recommends keeping them indoors during the shooting program.

Please refer to the FAQs for more information on this program.

We thank you for your understanding and patience while these essential measures are undertaken to protect our native wildlife.
