Protecting and enhancing the site’s environmental value
Nature will be a key focus of the Woodlands District Park development. The upgrades aim to protect and enhance the site’s environmental value. Water will be a key feature of the landscape, especially within the Lake Precinct. This will be enhanced through flood and drainage improvements.
We will also naturalise the existing swale drain using seeds that were collected from the site and surrounding area and propagated at council’s Mackay Natural Environment Centre. The swale drain acts as a protective device in managing the impact of edge effects on the remnant vegetation in Woodlands Reserve.
