The upgrades to Ron Anderson Park in South Mackay are complete and open to the park.

The park has a new combination play unit, rockers and the existing shade structure has remained.

A tribute to Ron:
Pompey Street Park was renamed to Ron Anderson Park in 2014 in recognition of Ron Anderson's commitment to the community and his tireless volunteering to assist others in need.

Ron would tell anyone that he was put on this earth for two things: his family and to help anyone else needing assistance. This goal he achieved throughout his life by tirelessly collecting money for foundations and relief programs, participation in club and child safety activities, acts of kindness to assist the ill, underprivileged and members of the community in need.

The Anderson family home is located nearby on Abosolon Street, South Mackay.

This project is funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Mackay Regional Council wishes to advise that the Ron Anderson Park upgrade is progressing, and the park is expected to open before Christmas.

There has been a delay to one element of the playground equipment. A tornado swing has been damaged in transit.

The tornado swing will be resupplied in the new year and installed in late February 2021. The installation of the tornado swing will require the park to partially close for a few days to facilitate the works.

The upgrades include replacement of the play equipment with a new combination play unit, cantilever swing, rockers and more. The existing shade structure will remain.

During the works some noise and dust disturbance is expected. Council thanks you for your patience and apologises for any inconvenience.

We hope you enjoy the new equipment and look forward to installing the final piece soon.
