Contractor Vassallo Constructions Pty Ltd will be upgrading the Sydney and River streets intersection and the Bluewater Trail from mid-January, 2025.

The project focuses on improving the pedestrian and cycle connectivity between the City Centre and Riverside precincts.

The works will include new and wider footpaths, new park furniture, improved lighting and landscaping. There will also be reduced intersection wait times for cyclists and pedestrians at the signals.

The contractor will commence work in the park area and the footpath in front of the Telstra building.

As a result, six car parks adjacent to the park area and six in the centre car parking area opposite Wood Street will be out of action.

Pedestrian and cyclist detours will be in place and there will be reduced speed limits near the work area. Please adhere to all roadside signage and instructions.

As the project progresses further updates will be provided to keep residents and businesses informed about the works.

The works are expected to be completed by June, weather permitting.

This project is the fourth for the Waterfront Priority Development Area (PDA). Previous projects include the Queens Park Revitalisation and the Riverside Revitalisation project (comprising the recently completed Pioneer River pontoon and River Wharves).

The Sydney and River streets intersection active transport crossing is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grant program and Mackay Regional Council.

Should you have any questions about these works, please contact council's Project Manager Adam Pearce on 1300 MACKAY (622 529).
