Timber bridge restorations
Project update: The restoration works by contractor Timber Restoration Systems to Palm Tree Creek Bridge have been completed. Find out more.
Contractor Timber Restoration Systems (TRS), on behalf of council, is completing restoration works to several aged timber bridges, in the northern region of Mackay.
The bridges were constructed in the 1930s and have reached the end of their life.
Greens Bridge in Mount Charlton is now complete. The bridge is re-opened to motorists.
Work is underway on Palm Tree Creek Bridge in Pinnacle.
The bridge is being reconstructed and a side-track is in place for motorists to use.
The works are expected to be completed by mid-October, weather permitting.
The contractor will commence restoration works to Barren Creek Bridge in September.
The bridge will be closed from Friday, September 6, with detours in place.
Residents can travel via Barren Creek Road to Barron Pocket Road. Alternate routes can also be taken via Mirani-Mount Ossa Road. Please follow all roadside signage.
Motorists should note, there are maximum vehicle size allowances on Calen-Mt Charlton Road and the detour route.
The maximum vehicle size allowable is 42.5 Tonnes, which is a semi-trailer or truck and dog combination. If you require access for B-double or larger vehicles you must apply for an access permit via the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator portal https://www.nhvr.gov.au/about-us/nhvr-portal
Barren Creek Bridge restoration is expected to be completed by early-December, weather permitting.
