Project Update: As of 12.30pm on Sunday, March 23, 2025, the Midge Point water supply is safe to consume. Council have completed the Midge Point watermain cleaning works.
_______________________________________________________________________
Council has engaged a highly skilled contractor, Flo-Max Australia, to clean the watermains supplying the Midge Point township.
The works involve a combination of pipeline pigging and air scouring to address the continued water quality issues.
The works are being completed in two stages.
Stage one has been completed.
Stage one involved cleaning the watermains from the Kelsey Creek Water Treatment Plant to Kunapipi Road.
This process removed a large amount of sediment from the watermains, which was causing the continued water quality issues.
Stage two will involve cleaning the watermains from Kunapipi Road to the Midge Point Road / Conder Parade intersection, as well as the watermains within the township using the pipeline pigging and air scouring process.
These works are scheduled to start on Monday, March 17 and be completed by Sunday, March 23, weather permitting.
As a result of these works, residents residing in Laguna Quays will have low water pressure during the works and there will be intermittent and full day water interruptions and low water pressure in the Midge Point township from Monday, March 17 to Sunday, March 23. Please see the water interruption details below.

The quality of the restored water will be slightly discoloured due to a high level of minerals and can only be used for cleaning purposes. It can only be used for bathing, washing dishes, flushing toilets and, if the water appears clean, washing your clothes. Washing in discoloured water may stain your clothing.
Council will notify residents on Sunday, March 23, when the town’s water supply is safe to consume. Residents will be notified via text message, on VMS digital boards along roads in the township, and an update will be posted on council’s Facebook page and Connecting Mackay website (connectingmackay.com.au/midgepoint).
Council will deliver free bottled drinking water to each household the week prior to the works commencing. If you require additional drinking water during the works, please contact Project Manager Jordan Bella on 4961 9887. Residents are also encouraged to stockpile water prior to the works commencing for drinking and bathing purposes.
At the completion of the stage two works, Midge Point residents are asked to run their outdoor tap for a few minutes to ensure the water is running clean. If the water continues to be slightly discoloured for 24 hours after the work has been completed, please contact Project Manager Jordan Bella on (07) 4961 9887 or council on 1300 MACKAY (622 529).
If you have any questions about the works, please contact council’s Community Engagement Officer Rebecca Batzloff on 1300 MACKAY (622 529) or Project Manager Jordan Bella on 4961 9887.
