Why are the works happening?

Tap water will be restored each night from Wednesday, March 19 to Saturday, March 22 from approximately 6pm, for cleaning purposes only. It must not be consumed.
Will drinking water be provided?
Council will deliver free bottled drinking water to each household the week prior to the works commencing. If you require additional drinking water during the works, please contact Project Manager Jordan Bella on (07) 4961 9887. Residents are also encouraged to stockpile extra water in their homes before works begin for drinking and bathing purposes.
Can I drink the restored water at night?
No, you must not consume the tap water from Wednesday, March 19 until Sunday, March 23. Council will notify you when it is safe to consume.
What will be the quality of the restored water at night?
The restored water will be slightly discoloured due to iron and manganese being cleaned from the pipes.
What will happen if I consume the restored water at night?
The water will be chlorinated prior to delivery, but we are encouraging residents not to consume it until it has passed all Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
What can I use the restored water for?
The quality of the restored water at night will be discoloured and must only be used for:
Can I use a dishwater during the works?
No. It is recommended that you do not use a dishwasher from Wednesday, March 19 until Monday, March 24 due to the potential for fine sediments to clog your dishwasher.
Can I cook food, like pasta, in the restored water?
No. The water must not be consumed.
When will I be notified that water is safe to consume?
We anticipate the water will have passed all Australian Drinking Water Guidelines by Sunday, March 23. All residents will be notified by text message when the water has passed the testing requirements and is safe to consume. Messaging will also be updated on temporary roadside VMS signs located in the area and www.connectingmackay.com.au/midgepoint
Will water be discharged from the watermains?
Yes. Residents may notice discoloured water in gutters and drains during the works. All watermain outlets will be fitted with filters before any water enters these drains. The water is not harmful to the environment and is discoloured due to the high levels of iron and manganese which are naturally occurring minerals.
Do I need to do anything at the completion of the works?
Please run your outdoor tap for a few minutes for the clean water to filter through. This will further flush our watermains and expel any trapped air in the pipes.
Who should I call if my water continues to be discoloured after the works?
Please call Project Manager Jordan Bella on (07) 4961 9887 or council on 1300 MACKAY (622 529).
Who can I call if I have further questions about the works?
Please contact council’s Community Engagement Officer Rebecca Batzloff on 1300 MACKAY (622 529) or Project Manager Jordan Bella on (07) 4961 9887.
