Installing the bus shelter frame (November 13)
Contractor Woollam Constructions will be installing the steel frame for the Caneland Station bus interchange on Mangrove Road from November 13.
The works will occur over three nights from 9pm to 5am, weather permitting.
As a result of the works, there may be some minor noise disruptions. However, appropriate controls will be put in place to minimise these disturbances.
A pedestrian detour will also be installed near the work area. Please adhere to all signage and instructions.

Works to commence on stage two!
Contractor Woollam Constructions will commence work on stage two of the Caneland Station Bus Interchange project on Mangrove Road from Monday, September 25.
The works will include:
- A 60 metre long, double sided bus station shelter providing cover to the passenger platform and rear shared path,
- A shared pedestrian/cycle path at the rear of the passenger platform,
- A three bay bus layover between Caneland Central access and Matsurra Drive roundabout,
- Landscaping works,
- Road furniture and signage.
As a result of the works there will be 40 kilometre per hour speed limits near the construction area and pedestrian detours in place. Please adhere to all signage and instructions.
The works are expected to be completed before Christmas, weather permitting.

Seeking experienced contractor for stage 2 works
Stage 1 of the Caneland Station bus interchange project is completed and council is looking for an experienced contractor for stage 2, the bus shelter structure.
The works include:
- A bus station shelter providing cover to the passenger platform and rear shared path
- Three bay bus layover between Caneland Central access and Matsurra Drive roundabout.
A covered pathway will also be built from Caneland Central Shopping Centre to the new bus station. These works will be completed by Caneland Central Shopping Centre.

Project update
As of Thursday, December 22, RoadTek have completed the following stage 1 works of the Caneland Station bus interchange project:
- the removal of the zebra crossing on Mangrove Road and the installation of a signalised pedestrian crossing to improve pedestrian safety in the area
- closure of the Peel Street exit to Mangrove Road to accommodate the new pedestrian crossing
- network infrastructure upgrades.
RoadTek will return to Mangrove Road from Monday, January 16, 2023, to complete the remaining stage 1 works: the bus station laydown and landscaping works.
These works will be completed at night to minimise disruption to surrounding businesses.
Traffic control will be in place when required. Please adhere to all roadside signage and instructions.
These works are expected to be completed by February 2023, weather permitting.

Signalised pedestrian crossing on Mangrove Road
Motorists are advised of a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Mangrove Road to improve pedestrian connectivity and safety in the Mackay city centre.
It replaces the old zebra crossing and features traffic lights, pedestrian signal displays and line marking.
Motorists are asked to please adhere to all traffic instructions.
These works are part of the Caneland Station Bus Interchange project.
The Caneland Station Bus Interchange project is funded by the Queensland Government, through Translink, and being managed by Mackay Regional Council.
